DEBATE:

'The BBC is a public good we should all pay for'

As someone who has spent much of a 40 year career on the non-BBC side of the broadcasting fence, I was touched to be invited by Piers Plowright to take his place proposing the motion in favour of the BBC and its universal mandatory funding.

I look forward to making the case in favour.  I believe a newly-focused and well-regulated  BBC, funded through direct taxation, is the way to preserve what is truly irreplaceable from the World's finest broadcaster.

Martyn Bond, former BBC producer and foreign correspondent, will be opposing.
